Track InPops bookings in Google Ads
A salon you run ads for takes its online bookings through InPops. Three steps connect those bookings to its Google Ads account. You don't need an InPops login.
1. Set up the booking conversion
Use the salon's existing booking conversion, or create a website conversion action with manual setup:
- Goal: Book appointment
- Value: Use different values for each conversion, with a default value
- Count: One
2. Send the salon its conversion ID and label
They look like this: AW-123456789/AbC-dEfGhIj. You'll find them in the conversion's Tag setup, under Use Google Tag Manager, or as send_to in the event snippet. The salon adds them to InPops.
3. Add book.inpops.com to the Google tag
This carries the ad click from the salon's website to its booking page.
- Google tag: Tools › Data manager › Google tag › Manage › Settings › Configure your domains
- Tag Manager: Conversion Linker › Enable linking across domains › Auto Link Domains
That's all. InPops does the rest.
What InPops sends Google
- A conversion when a guest finishes booking online, with the booking's ID as transaction_id, so a booking reported twice counts once.
- A value when the salon has estimated one for that kind of booking; otherwise your default applies. These are the salon's estimates, not sales, so don't report them as revenue.
- No name, phone number or email, and no enhanced conversions.
Bookings made at the front desk aren't sent, and neither are those from guests who opt out or whose browser sends Global Privacy Control. So Google Ads can show fewer bookings than the salon took.
Where your ads can land
- The salon's website, with a link to InPops: works once step 3 is done.
- The salon's InPops booking link: works with no extra setup, since the click is on the address.
- A page with InPops booking embedded: the conversion is reported on that page, where Google's click cookie is.
Check that it works
Use Tag Assistant to follow an ad click through to a test booking, then cancel the booking with the link it gives you. Conversions can take up to a day to show in Google Ads. The salon can also see in InPops when an ad click last reached booking and when a booking last went to Google.
Optional: your own tags on an embedded page
Where booking is embedded, InPops also tells the page when a booking is made:
- dataLayer event inpops_booking, with transaction_id, plus value and currency when there's an estimate
- dataLayer event onlineBookingPurchase, with ecommerce.purchase.actionField.id and revenue, for setups that already listen for it
- window event inpops:booking, with the same details, for sites without Tag Manager
To carry the ad click across every page of a site without drawing anything, add this in a Tag Manager Custom HTML tag: <script async src="https://book.inpops.com/embed.js" data-salon="the-salon-slug" data-mode="links"></script>
